Diamond Cutting Blades for Construction

Whether you are cutting concrete slabs, paving bricks, kerb stones, or asphalt on a busy construction site, the right diamond cutting blade makes the difference between a clean job and a costly mistake. Vus Cutting Technology stocks a full range of construction-grade diamond cutting blades designed to handle the toughest materials found on South African job sites — from freshly poured concrete to old, hardened masonry.

Our construction blades are available in 115mm, 230mm and 350mm sizes, covering both angle grinder and floor saw applications, and are supplied as both Silver Brazed and Laser Welded variants to suit different cutting conditions and budgets.

Choosing the Right Blade

Old Concrete & Masonry vs New Concrete & Asphalt

The single most important choice when selecting a construction diamond blade is matching it to the hardness and age of the material you are cutting.

    • Old concrete and masonry (hard material): Use a Silver Brazed or Laser Welded blade rated for old concrete. The softer bond matrix in these blades releases diamond particles faster, keeping the blade sharp against dense, cured material.
    • New concrete and asphalt (softer, more abrasive material): Use a blade specifically rated for new concrete or asphalt. These blades use a harder bond to slow diamond release, preventing the blade from wearing too quickly in softer, grittier mixes.
    • General purpose / mixed sites: The VCT C1 Professional General Purpose Segmented Diamond Cutting Blade is a versatile option suited for sites where you cut across a variety of materials.

Silver Brazed vs Laser Welded

    • Silver Brazed blades are bonded using a high-temperature silver brazing process. They are well-suited to wet cutting and offer good value on medium-volume jobs.
    • Laser Welded blades have segments fused directly to the steel core using a laser. They are stronger, safer at higher RPMs, and preferred for dry cutting and high-production environments.

Size

    • 115mm blades are used with standard angle grinders for hand-held cutting, detail work, edge trimming, and cutting smaller concrete and masonry pieces.
    • 230mm blades are used with angle grinders for hand-held cutting, joint work, and detail cuts.
    • 350mm blades are designed for floor saws, road saws, and walk-behind machines on larger surface cuts.

Applications

Our construction diamond blades are used across a wide range of projects and trades, including:

    • Road and pavement cutting
    • Concrete floor sawing and expansion joint cutting
    • Kerb and channel installation
    • Brick and block cutting for building construction
    • Demolition and renovation work on hardened concrete structures

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a construction blade to cut granite or tiles?

No. Construction diamond blades are engineered for cementitious and masonry materials. For granite, marble, or ceramic tiles, use a blade from our Diamond Cutting Blades for Granite and Marble range to avoid damaging both the blade and the material.

Wet cut or dry cut — which is better?

Both methods work. Wet cutting uses water to cool the blade and suppress dust, extending blade life and improving cut quality. Dry cutting is more convenient on site but requires adequate ventilation and dust protection. Always check the blade specification before dry cutting.

Do you supply blades in bulk for contractors?
