Granite Tombstone Sandblasting Vinyl Tape

Sandblasting vinyl tape is an essential consumable for any workshop producing engraved granite tombstones. It acts as a resist mask — applied to the polished surface of the stone before sandblasting, protecting the areas you want to preserve while exposing only the lettering, motifs, or patterns you want to engrave.

Vus Cutting Technology supplies heavy-duty sandblasting vinyl tape engineered to withstand the abrasive force of the sandblasting process without lifting, tearing, or allowing bleed-through — giving you clean, sharp-edged engravings every time.

How Sandblasting Vinyl Works

The process is straightforward:

    • Step 1: Clean and dry the polished granite surface thoroughly.
    • Step 2: Apply the vinyl tape to the full area of the stone to be engraved.
    • Step 3: Use a stencil or plotter-cut design to cut through the vinyl, exposing only the areas to be engraved.
    • Step 4: Weed (remove) the cut vinyl from the areas to be blasted.
    • Step 5: Sandblast the exposed stone to the desired depth.
    • Step 6: Peel off the remaining vinyl to reveal clean, crisp engraving.

The quality and thickness of the vinyl tape directly affects engraving quality. Thin or low-grade tape lifts under blast pressure and allows sand to undercut the masked edges, producing blurry or uneven lettering. Our vinyl tape is supplied in the correct thickness and adhesion strength for granite tombstone work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness of vinyl tape should I use for tombstone sandblasting?

For tombstone work, a thicker vinyl (typically 0.38mm to 0.5mm) provides better resistance to sandblast pressure and cleaner edge definition. Contact us to confirm the specifications of our current stock.

Can the vinyl tape be used on marble as well as granite?

Yes. The tape works on any polished or honed natural stone surface. Ensure the surface is clean and free of oils or dust before application for maximum adhesion.

Do you sell in bulk rolls for production workshops?

Yes. We supply to tombstone manufacturers and stone workshops. Contact us on 083 680 2979 for bulk roll pricing and delivery.
