Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to use all 7 steps every time? On freshly cut or sawn stone, start from 50 grit and work through all seven stages. On stone that has already been ground smooth, you can begin at a higher grit — but never skip more than one stage as this will leave visible scratch marks in the final finish.
Can I use these pads dry? These pads are designed for wet use. Run water over the surface during polishing to protect the stone from heat stress and to extend the working life of each pad.
What angle grinder do I need? Any M14 angle grinder fitted with a Velcro Pad Holder or Rubber Backing Pad. Both are available in the Granite & Marble Polishing Products range.
Can these be used on marble? Yes. Use lighter pressure on marble, particularly on the 50 and 100 grit pads, to avoid over-cutting the softer surface. Marble can often begin the sequence at 100 or 200 grit if the surface has already been prepared.
What comes after the 3000 grit pad? Apply PG15 Granite Powder Oxide with a suitable pad to bring the surface to the final deep mirror finish. The PG15 stage should only be done once all scratch marks from the 3000 grit pad have been completely removed.
